About Us

Why “Traktierius”?

We chose the name Traktierius (Tavern) because the word “restaurant” alone cannot encompass the wide range of services we provide. Our focus is on tourism and travelers; in the future, we plan to offer tours of Kupiškis’ landmarks, develop educational programs, and integrate the Kupiškis Lagoon Villa into our activities.

Currently, our tavern offers daily lunch specials, a bar-restaurant, a banquet hall, a courtyard for events, and a hotel that accommodates up to 19 guests. Historically, the main road to Riga—known as a traktas—passed near Kupiškis. Along these routes, roadside inns called traktieriai were established, offering a full spectrum of services for travelers.

Our Vision

The core idea behind our Tavern is to introduce visitors to the history, architecture, customs, food traditions, and the unique dialect of the Kupiškis region. The interior was inspired by the history of Northern Lithuania and Kupiškis, featuring architectural details such as authentic blacksmithing, wood carving, and traditional wood motifs on the ceilings and doors. The walls are decorated with old photographs of Kupiškis and hand-painted motifs of historic wooden Jewish houses. Our menu also highlights Northern Lithuanian specialties, such as zrazai (meat rolls) and švilpikai (potato “whistles”).
